Blue Ribbon Herrringbone.
Dartford, England. The Fox and Hounds, where Ive ducked in to get out of the rain.
Corner table. I order a pint of Theakston Old Peculier, along with bangers and mash and embark on my foremost hobby: people- (and clothes-) watching.
Though there is no shortage of colorful characters, theres not a single tweed blazer or fishermans cable I havent seen before.
But, then.
Out of the cold rain strolls a gent in a waterpoof trench coat.
He doesnt rush in like a man afraid of getting soaked through, shoulders curved against the downpour like youd think. He shrugs off his coat. gives it a shake and, with a flip, it’s no longer a raincoat but a lovely herringbone wool overcoat.
The evening’s blue ribbon winner. No contest.
